3D EARTH: A Generative Process workshop, which will be held on the April 6th-07th; April 12th-14th and May 3rd-5th at ISCTE-IUL , Lisbon, Portugal.

The workshop involves four partners: VitruviusFabLab-ISCTE-IUL,  Associação Centro da Terra, Universidade de Évora and Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologias - Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

The international workshop will attempt to respond to two questions:

What are the capabilities of Digital Fabrication in Architecture of Earth?

How to combine the traditional construction techniques in earth with the CAD/CAM digital processes in the construction of full-scale architectural structures (1:1)?

The main goal is to explore the potentials of advanced digital processes in the construction in earth having the morphogenesis as reference. The final wall will result from a parametric design.

The workshop will explore: (1) the use of Rhino and Grasshoper as creative tools for 3D modeling; (2) prototyping using CNC milling machine for full-scale construction of the final wall.

The theorical and practical workshop (66 hours) is taught in English and Portuguese and is composed by four modules: (1) 3D.E_01: Conferences; (2) 3D.E_02: Training – Rhino + Grasshopper; (3) 3D.E_03: Earth Processes – Prototyping; (4) 3D.E_04: Full Scale Construction.

Registration is limited to 20 participants with or without software knowledge. Participants will work in group. Participants must take their own laptops to the workshop. Registrations should complete the form by 28th February 2013. Once registered, you will receive an email confirming your acceptance.
